NET GAINS FOR THAMES VALLEY POLICE
MSC Security have been instrumental in developing a video transmission
system over IP (Internet Protocol). Originally commissioned
by Thames Valley Police to transmit public CCTV images to
its control rooms via the BT ISDN at up to 256 kbs. Our knowledge
of Internet Protocol (IP) technology and understanding of
Police operating requirements led us to recommend an IP transmission
solution. The installation halved the cost of the project
while providing a much more flexible system with far greater
long term potential. The force is now able to route any of
the 1,100 camera images from their three counties (and their
eleven CCTV public control rooms) to the two new centralised
police control rooms. Whilst operating in compliance with
the Data Protection Act, the system enables police controllers
to deploy appropriate resources to developing incidents by
watching situations as they unfold. The issue of "Bandwidth"
is a constant dilemma for IT managers; in conjunction with
CNL – a
software development company – a solution has been developed
providing high quality CCTV images using small file sizes
to minimise demands on LAN/WAN. Lawrence Cohen reports on
a project which has enhanced the force's ability to
respond to incidents. Please read the full article here.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND POLICE FORCES
We have recently completed a large project in conjunction with
West Oxfordshire District Council, Thames Valley Police,
Witney Town Council and Witney Chamber of Trade and Commerce.
We planned and installed a state-of-the-art CCTV system in
Witney, Oxfordshire.
We made use of some innovative technologies, such as a private
fibre optic transmission link, and touch-screen controls to
make the setup as effective and easy-to-use as possible.
